In order to act effectively against numerous pathological processes,
we consider essential to contribute to the understanding of the complex
networks of interaction molecular (metabolic and signalling) that define
the viability, proliferation and cellular differentiation.
Our group uses various experimental approaches in vivo, in vitro and in silico to advance this objective and provide new intervention strategies against inflammatory processes, angiogenesis and tumor proliferation
The group Molecular Basis of Cell Proliferation (code BIO-267 of the Plan Andalusian Research [PAI]) is formed by professors and researchers from the University of Malaga attached to the Dept. of Molecular biology and biochemistry at the Faculty of Sciences, the Institute of Health Carlos III (unit 741 of the Center for Biomedical Research in Network for Rare Diseases [CYBER-ER]) and the Ministry of Science and Innovation [MICINN). In Procel group directed their research activity 8 doctors: Ignacio Fajardo Paredes, Juan Antonio García Ranea, José Castro Lozano, Miguel Ángel Medina Torres, Aurelio Moya García, Ana María Rodríguez Quesada, Francisca Sánchez Jiménez and José Luis Urdiales Ruiz.
At present, the group maintains, within the areas of Biomedicine and Life Sciences, three main lines of research: Metabolic Systems, Angiogenesis and Signal Transduction and Cancer. These activities are carried through national and autonomous projects of the National Plan of Scientific Research, Development and Technological Innovation of Spanish Goverment [National Plan I+D+I 2008-2011) and through actions and european projects integrated in the Framework Program of Research and Technological Development.
